The technology AQUATRACK® – “Online Monitoring & Sampling coupled with Ozone Polishing of effluent” is provided by Aqua-Q, a Swedish SME, and has got EU ETV “Statement of Verification”.
MBR effluent contains pharmaceutical residues and pathogens. In order to achieve better quality of water for reuse purpose AQUA-Q has developed and performed an ozone bench scale pre-study to understand the nature of the effluent from MBR and polishing feasibility.
With different components available on the market Aqua-Q has developed and composed an on-line self-contained modular ozone polishing system with oxygen generator, ozone generator, system for creation of micro bubbles in the mixing phase of gas and water, reaction tank, destruction unit and measuring equipment.
After ozone polishing of MBR effluent the results are outstanding (0.06 – 0.08 ppm) below the detection limit with residual of dissolved ozone in the effluent. This modular ozone system is scalable.
Substances shown in the table below were present in the effluent of MBR process which has been totally eliminated by the ozone polishing step. It was observed that there is no need for additional secondary GAC or sand filtration. The water can comply with many reuse applications. With AQUA-Q’s ozone polishing step all the faecal bacteria like E.coli, coliforms and total viable count were also inactivated to zero level.
This technology is a cost effective alternative method to the traditional method of ozone application to remove drug residues.
